Students had a new design challenge this week - Circle of Pong. Working in groups of three or four they had to design , then build a device that could put a Ping Pong ball in a cup that was in the center of a six-foot diameter circle. The students could not get inside the circle, they could not touch the ball once the attempt began and all members of the team had to be actively engaged in the placement of the ball. IT WAS CHALLENGING to say the least.
Today students worked in groups of four ( or three) to design and build a marble run using construction paper, tape, craft sticks, paper clips, and index cards. The run had to be free-standing and the marble had to travel at least 40 cm upon leaving the run. They had 40 minutes to complete the challenge and all groups did. We then had a gallery walk of the designs with each group's recorder acting as the spokesperson.
Students worked in small groups to meet the challenge of building the tallest card tower or the most creative card tower. It took lots of grit to keep trying, especially when the cards would not stack!
