Dale Chihuly is one of the artist we are studying this year and the reason for our field trip to the Coastal Arts Center for a Hot Shop.
After viewing a video on optical illusions, and doing a bit of research on various sites posted on our Moodle class, students added a post to the Optical Illusion padlet and then began working on their op art spheres. Here is a link to the padlet: http://padlet.com/mdumas/opil
This week students are exploring the art of M.C. Escher. M.C. Escher is famous for his amazing tessellations! After watching the video, M.C. Escher: Images of Mathematics, students created tessellations. "A tessellation is any pattern made of repeating shapes that covers a surface completely without overlapping or leaving any gaps."
Students were busy completing scripts, finding music to add to their shows and practicing before they are filmed. Each group or individual will add a video of their play to our class SeeSaw. I will send you the logon information once all videos have been added.
Students in Thursday's class used the Talents Unlimited Planning Talent to organize their thoughts and ideas about the shadow puppet plays they are writing. They have the theaters ready, and next week will make the puppets.
Students learned how to access, save, edit and then upload a document to our Moodle online class. This is the first stage in the completion of the Light and Optics Kidblog post.
Students were randomly put in teams and then given an overview of the Simultaneous Round Table discussion format. They responded in writing -no talking- to three categories of questions in reference to the image. Then as a group they discussed their responses and chose a team spokesperson to share their ideas to the whole class.
Lots of teamwork and critical thinking in this lesson. Left: Thursday students practicing good team building behaviors in learning stations.
Right: Tuesday students working as a team to complete the Spaghetti Tower Challenge. |
